I haven't been here for awhile, huh? There's no excuse, except that real life is distracting. The chapter's not that long, but I hope it's enough to tide you over until I locate my other chapters. I got a new computer and I KNOW I transferred all my files from my old one, but some of them seem to be misplaced...

Title:
A Place To Call Home
Disclaimer: I do not own Hoot. Therefore the characters aren't mine.
Rating: PG-13
Pairing: Mullet/Roy (don't like, don't read), brief Roy/Beatrice
Summary: "Home ain't walls and floors, Tex. It's right here, and no one can take that away from us."
Overall Warnings: Slash (DUH!), some cussing, and glispes of abuse and neglection.

Hello, MulletxRoy fan-people! :)

I'm wondering if this comm died, but just in case it didn't, I wanted to post two of my completed Hoot stories (with slashy romance present, obviously) for you all to read.

You might've read these already, because the first one has been on FF.net for a long time now, and I've recently completed the sequel story I made. But here you go, regardless. xD

Hey!

I'm Kaz, and I'm from the UK and I recently got the DVD of Hoot. *grins* I love it! And the Slashyness!!!!

I heard about this film through a preview at the start another DVD, and I seriously wanted to see what it was about. It looked cute! But, for some reason, it was never released over here. I've never seen it advertised until I saw the preview on the DVD.

I looked everywhere for it, but I couldn't find it. But, I managed to find it yesterday in a second-hand DVD store! I watched it today and I loved it! Roy/Mullet-Fingers all the way baby! LOL!

So yeah...just thought I'd introduce myself and say hi! :D

You've all been in this situation.

You're online, bored, and have just watched or read Hoot.

You notice the slash, but it seems no one else has.

WHERE ARE ALL THE FICS?

The answer is, right here!

Thanks to ciaan for the lovely BETA job.

Enjoy! And OTHER AUTHORS OUT THERE! WRITE!

PS bookverse, not movieverse.

Hi, I just came across this community. I don't know if it's alive, or what, but I just saw the Hoot Movie after having read the books, and made tons of slashy comments that made the kids I was babysitting give me strange looks. (We then got into a long and involved argument about whether Harry/Draco was viable, but that's another story.) Anyways, since then, I have been unable to find any Roy/Mullet fanfiction! Does anyone know any? If so, LINKS PLEASE! Otherwise, I may have to write some, and I really don't have time, at least not until November's over.

Three Hooty Announcements [Aug. 21st, 2006|10:32 am]
Hoot (the movie (and the book, too))

1. So, Hoot is now out on DVD and video, for those of y'all who might be interested in purchasing it.

2. I think I'll update the comm info and add more stuff to the interests list. Got any suggestions?

3. I finished reading the book. The plots of the book and the movie differ in a lot of details, but overall are mainly the same. The book is a little more over the top in a number of ways, I think they toned it down to make the movie less "quirky." But in contrast, the book also deals more complexly with a lot of the dark elements of the story, such as bullying and parental neglect. The movie made me smile smile smile the whole way through, and the book made me tear up a few times. It's less flat-out fun and more of a thoughtful, emotional story. I'm not actually sure if Carl Hiaasen's style is enough my thing to make me read more of his books, but I enjoyed reading this one.

Looking at it from a fic-writing point of view, I'd say that the plots differ enough that you'd have to keep yourself straight on whether you were using book-canon or movie-canon for the details of events, but if you were writing movie-fic, there's some backstory elements from the book that could be included in your stories.

Also, the book isn't as slashy as the movie (but then, few things are). If I'd read the book first, it wouldn't have jumped out at me. But it's definitely there to see if you're already looking at it that way. (The ending of the movie, though, is a lot more happy slashy than the ending of the book.)

The evil (step-)mother's name is Lonna instead of Lana. :(

You wanna know Mullet Fingers' real name?Collapse )

So that's my report!

[Edit:

4. Damn! I just checked IMDB, and actually registered to read the boards there because they're talking about the slashiness of Hoot. And wanking over it! Jeez, that's crazy. The IMDB boards really are a hotbed of wank, just like I've always heard.]

So, I recently went to see this little movie called Hoot. The previews looked pretty cute: there were baby owls, boat rides through beautiful Florida waterways, and teenagers with adorable chemistry together.

Then I saw the movie, and yay! It had even more of that stuff. It made me quite happy. But most other people hadn't seen it, and almost no one seemed to be talking about it. I looked to see if there were any LJ comms, or a section on ff.n (I shudder to admit I've been searching there recently, but I have. *shudder*), or anything, and there weren't. Surely someone will make one soon, I thought. But no one did.

That's why I'm doing it.

Welcome to this community.

I just ordered the book off Amazon, but it hasn't gotten here yet. I'll probably get the movie when it comes out on DVD, because I like owning movies that make me happy, so I can rewatch them and be happy some more. And I've been telling all my friends to watch it, too, though mostly they've been ignoring my advice because they are lazy and silly. And on a personal note: in conclusion, text.
